How to Edit Text in an Image in Photoshop

Editing text in Photoshop is straightforward when the document still contains a live type layer. A finished JPG or PNG is different: its letters have been merged into the pixels, so you must remove the old text, repair the background and create a new text layer. Use these steps when you have a PSD or another layered document and the Layers panel shows a type layer with a T icon.

Why JPG Text Cannot Be Edited as a Text Layer

7. Inspect the result at 100% zoom and export a copy while retaining the layered PSD.

A replacement with a similar character count usually fits the original footprint more naturally. Longer wording may require a smaller size, tighter spacing or a redesigned layout.
